Volunteer for the Blind & Visually Impaired Children
of Pongwe School for the Blind.

Education and training opportunities help to fill in the gaps in economic and social development that marginalise them. Through education, we seek to close the gap between the life experiences of children with hearing or vision impairment, and those without.

Teacher Assistants within the Early Learning Programme:
The school urgently requires volunteers to assist the teaching staff for afternoon extra-curricular sessions. You will be very fortunate to see lots of the aspects of working with Blind & Visually Impaired Children, and how wonderful, dedicated you are by educating the children. You will love everything about volunteering with us – the wonderful comradeship, untold friendships you will make, a dedication of everyone!

Duties include:
  • Help to set up the play area for S.H.A.R.P.* Sports, Habilitation, Arts and Recreation Programme to be designed for children ages 6-18 who are blind, visually impaired and multiply impaired. The programme is open to any school-age blind or visually impaired child who has the desire to go out and explore what the world has to offer.
  • Create and beautify gardens surrounding the hostel and dining area.
  • Rebuild the toilet and bathrooms.
  • One day a week work with the Community Relations and Fundraising team.
  • To conduct early education programmes in family homes, centres, preschools and by remote delivery.
