Our History

Tanga-born Mohamed who enjoys working with the rural communities because his life's work began there conceived the inception of Tanzania ecoVolunteerism (TeV).
Tanzania ecoVolunteerism was thus established in 2001 and registered by the government of the
United Republic of Tanzania with a certificate number SO. 11297 on January 31st, 2001 under the
Society ordinance Cap 337 of 1954.

Since our inception, over 1,500 Tanzanian and international youth have had life changing experiences with Tanzania ecoVolunteerism.

Board of Directors governs Tanzania ecoVolunteerism‘s operations of activities.
The Executive Director manages the day-to-day activities and is also answerable to the Board.
The Board meets every three months to discuss the matters pertaining to our development goals.

The involvement of youth is critical to the success of Tanzania ecoVolunteerism developmental initiatives
and that volunteerism is the guiding spirit. Partnership with local NGO's, CBO’s and the community in capacity building is critical in the long-term sustainability and relevance of our work.

Thus was born The first youth exchange program between communities of Grantham in UK and Kiomoni Village in Tanga, Tanzania was successfully completed in August 2002.

World Youth Millennium Awards (WYMA) was a programme of youth exchanges established in partnership between VSO, the Prince’s Trust and TeV, to jointly carry out an international volunteer exchange between young people from the UK and Tanzania.

The project was a huge success and the foundation for future exchanges was set.

In the intervening years Tanzania ecoVolunteerism has grown and diversified and now operates Volunteer opportunities in partnership with different organisations worldwide.

Tanzania ecoVolunteerism has successfully constructed its own Resources Center at Kiomoni Village in Tanga District. The Kiomoni Community Resource Center runs ICT programmes, a Kindergarten/Nursery School and support in the training of children with disabilities.

The funding for the project was from Tourcare Tanzania and Quest Overseas of UK.

Construction of two more classrooms is now completed with funding from Tourcare Tanzania and the donation of 1500 Bricks from Jennifer and Brian Heath of Vancouver, Canada.
