Ecotourism

Ecotourism is a form of tourism that will contribute to environmental protection, the sensitive and sustainable use of natural and cultural resources and the delivery of measurable socio-economic benefits to local communities.
Therefore, not only does ecotourism offer a source of income for rural communities, it also provides them with an economic stake in conserving and protecting their surroundings and culture.
Apart from that, it offers to tourists the possibility to learn from this environmental and community-based experience, about the issues at stake.

How to support community based and sustainable ecotourism:
Ecotourism will help the community as well as contribute to the conservation of Amboni Caves.
With an improved economic situation the communities will realise the value of the Amboni Caves Nature Park. This combination of ecotourism with community-based tourism will offer the villagers a sustainable road to development.

TeV currently develops many interesting alternatives to mainstream tourism.
One of these is community-based ecotourism in Tanga Region, aiming to show tourists the magnificent heritage of the region, without affecting the people’s life and their environment.
Communities receive full participation in the development process and create a new sources of income. This way the wonderful but poor people of rural Tanga will have a decent future.
Furthermore, nature can be protected and tourists experience a memorable time in Tanga.
This way, you can help preserve their culture and nature!

The main goals of this project are TeV and the communities aim to start sustainable tourism as a basis for nature conservation and environmental education. :
  • To conserve the nature, its diverse ecosystem and its wildlife through tourism;
  • To reduce the exploitation of natural resources by educating the local people and creating alternative income opportunities;
  • To raise funds for infrastructure, ACNP management and start construction of the facilities;
  • To create general public awareness on the importance and benefits of Amboni Caves Nature Park;
  • To provide environmental education and create awareness building for tourists and the youth;
  • To create new tourist destinations close to Tanga.
