YouthAKILI Sports VenturesSport for Social and Human DevelopmentPhysical education and sport form an important part of educational systems and are key contributors to social, human and intellectual development. Both public authorities and private sector are thus united in their efforts to stimulate the general interest in sport and physical education, as they are clearly a powerful influence in:
and moral values of sport and physical education and their important role in achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Our Community based YouthAKILI Sports Ventures are based on UNESCO’s core action in physical education and sport is focused on:
2. Boosting the quality physical education and sport in education systems, thus advancing the Education for All (EFA) agenda. 3. Promoting cultural diversity and the respect for indigenous identity, while at the same time building cultural bridges, namely through the promotion and development of traditional sport and games. AKILI in Kiswahili is easily translated to the ‘intelligence’ and together YouthAKILI inspires young people to utilise their potential by working as a team on adventurous, environmental and community oriented projects in Tanzania. YouthAKILI stimulates the cooperation and global integration of all young people involved by offering them active participation in the promotion of strong environmental awareness in the civil society, an alternative educational environment for the youth with learning disabilities, eliminate clash of ignorance through sport development and initiate poverty alleviation programme for their empowerment. Related to these facts are the physical and emotional effects of living in a challenging environment where HIV/AIDS is part of every aspect of life. We are engaged in a number of innovative partnerships, supporting crosscutting community projects that involve a range of participatory activities and approaches. YouthAKILI overall aim of promoting health-competent young people by advancing the field of health communication, based on proven and evidence-based strategies, experience and the development of new approaches on HIV/Aids Awareness. YouthAKILI Sports Ventures will thus be: Breaking cultural barriers using Sports as a neutral platform Your Placement in Tanzania Football is loved and played by thousands of young people throughout Tanzania and nowhere more so than in the friendly coastal towns of Tanga, Pangani and Zanzibar. The communities surrounding these towns are full of keen, and often talented, young players who dream of being the next stars. It's a common sight to see groups of children kicking a ball around a dusty 'pitch' in the Tanzanian twilight. It’s a perfect opportunity to offer children a refreshing style of learning that can help raise their self-esteem.
Really get into life in Tanzania by becoming one of the Tanga community’s most prized members of society: Volunteer in and around the city, teaching English, Sports Development and other performance related activities and the outdoors. Pangani Enjoy the “Zanzibar of the Tanzanian mainland.” Imprinting its historic legacy in the tumbling streets of stone town. It’s history dates back to the 6th century BC and is also a prominent part of colonial history, an interesting history and strong cultural conventions. It’s a quiet little fishing town situated on the Pangani River, not far from some of the best idyllic beaches on the Tanzanian Coast. Pangani is in need of good teachers to bring English, Computer and Sports skills to primary and secondary schools in areas surrounding the town. You will be offering support to one of the local teachers in the classrooms and if you’re feeling confident enough, maybe taking over some of the lessons yourself. Zanzibar …Exotic Medley Your arrival in Zanzibar from the tense pace of modern travel, at will, goes back in time. Thus it comes as no surprise to the traveler in the millennium that Burton should have written when he looked upon ‘the mysterious island’ for the first time, that ‘earth, sea and sky, all seemed wrapped in a soft and sensuous repose’ Zanzibar, was known in the 19th Century as the Metropolis of East Africa – the place where trading in slaves held as great an attraction as trading in ivory. Today, Zanzibar is exotic and enticing. However, although the passion never fades, the opportunities to play and develop at a decent and well-structured level just aren't there. This is why we have teamed up to give youngsters the chance to train and play as part of a team and enjoy the same sports opportunities that are so often taken for granted in the West. YouthAKILI Street Football League Encounter is the way forward. Getting alongside children from less-advantaged backgrounds and building friendships over a common ground. It is from here that you will start to give enthusiastic, young players the chance to play the sport they love in an organized and fun environment. Whatever your background or skill-level, be assured that you will be able to offer something both positive and unique to the children and football projects you work on. Your building of teamwork with children and organise sports competitions will ensure that our children have the opportunity to engage in play and recreational activities appropriate to their age.
